It has been put in place to increase safety legislations across England and Wales. People carrying out electrical work in homes and gardens in England and Wales must follow the rules set out in Part P of the Building Regulations to ensure that they are complying with the law. These rules are designed to ensure that electrical work is safe and require most electrical work in dwellings to be notified to the local authority building control.

In its early years, Part P has already been proven to reduce the number of deaths, injuries and fires caused by faulty electrical installations. It also goes a long way to prevent bad quality workmanship by ‘cowboys’, who may inadvertently leave electrical installations in an unsafe condition.

Electrical work that needs to be carried out should only be worked on by fully qualified and registered companies. Always ask about Part P whenever you need electrical work completed, no matter how small the job.
